After a discussion with my students last night on the subject of Tavi Gevinson (love her or loathe her?), I decided to post about her. I am most curious about her, and have spent a good part of the last few hours researching the tiny person who goes by 'style rookie'. For those of you who haven't heard of Tavi, she's a 13 year old fashion blogger who has risen to international levels of fame and a sortof cult-like 'fashion prodigy' status. I have to admit, I am pretty blown away. She's funny, and writes well beyond her 13 years. She has a quirky, but sharp eye for fashion and styling. I think I'm mostly a fan because she's not afraid of being herself, which is pretty remarkable for any 13 year old. Verdict? Love her.

Shop local this holiday season and give one-of-a-kind and handmade gifts to make your friends and family feel truly special! Eye Level Art is hosting a Holiday Popup Shop at their gallery space at 103 Spring St. Opening reception is this Thursday 12/10 (tomorrow!) from 5:30-9pm. Don't fret if you can't make it (but you will miss out on champagne and treats and first dibs on the duds), because the shop will be open daily from noon until 7pm for the remainder of the holiday season....Clewis Reid will have plenty of handmade jewelry available...themed with a gold/silver mix in mind. Some new hand-hammered delicate gold necklaces, plenty of fun earrings, and even some very unique vintage pakastani jewelry that i've scavenged. All under $100!

i am a summer person. basking in the sun, frolicking in the surf, wearing a constant uniform of sundresses and flip flops.....it's my thing. however, since i don't live in a subtropical climate zone, i have this very unfortunate occurance every year from about november until march. i call it my 'winter doldrums'. this year, i'm trying really hard to get into the winter thing--'embrace that which you can not change.' my discovery of sandra backlund is helping out with that. amazing is a word that seems grossly overused these days, but her sculptural knitwear is nothing short of...

i've only fairly recently become a blog reader, and now i'm kindof obsessed. so i guess i owe a few apologies to those who i incessantly made fun of (ellen) for following and talking about them so much. they are awesome, or at least, there are some awesome ones out there (garance dore' is my idol), and i do aspire to, at the very least, make this one not suck. the main reason i'm adding it as a link to my website is to be able to keep up-to-date info available regarding my clothing and jewelry line, clewis reid. however, i hope to grow it also as an inspirational archive of what i find and want to share with whoever's interested!
